Agave albopilosa - Hardy
Succulent - Should be hardy to at least to 15° F., if acclimated. -
One of the finest cliff-dwelling succulents of North America. Found only
on (and near) a couple of vertical spires of ancient limestone in the Ejido
of El Pajonal, in the state of Nuevo León, México. The one
dozen or so inhabitants of that Ejido are sometimes outnumbered by botanical
tourists and seed collectors from central and eastern Europe. Bring climbing
gear for the best views!

weberi - Weber's Century Plant - Hardy Succulent
A very elegant and sculptural
agave, with no thorns along the smooth leaf margins. Each leaf bears a
single terminal thorn that can be cut off with pruners to make the plants
safer around walkways or children. With good care, it can grow to over
4' to 6' high and wide and does best in full sun to half-day sun, in a
location with good drainage. In fact, this species often looks better in
sites with late afternoon shade. Requires no supplemental irrigation
once established, except during prolonged summer droughts. |
